Joe Giordano spent 6 seasons as a coach with the men’s ice hockey program at Connecticut College in the NESCAC. He was responsible for assisting with all aspects of the program with an emphasis on recruiting, video, system implementation and individual skill development. Giordano also has head coaching experience at the U19 girls’ level as well as the U18 boys Tier 1 level.

Prior to his coaching career, Giordano played at Loomis Chaffee before heading to the junior ranks for the Springfield Pics in the Eastern Junior Hockey League and the Bismarck Bobcats in the North American Hockey League.

A native of Enfield, Connecticut, Giordano graduated from Connecticut College with a bachelor’s degree in history and economics, where he was a member of the NESCAC All-Academic Team and team captain his senior year.

Matt Powers joins the CT Nor'Easter as Academy Director and AAA Academy Head Coach. With extensive experience in top-tier organizations, Matt brings a wealth of knowledge and a proven track record in player development.

Most recently, Matt served as the Academy Director, NAHL Scout, and Head Coach for the 16U/18U teams at the Northeast Generals and Bridgewater Bandits. In these roles, he successfully recruited top-tier talent from across the country and created environments that fostered success both academically and athletically. Through structured training, mentorship, and personalized development plans, Matt is well-equipped to help our players reach the next level of competition, preparing them for advancement to our EHL Tier 2 team, as well as Tier 1 and NCAA opportunities. 

Matt’s background as a teacher, including his role in the Howard County Public School System, further strengthens his ability to lead our Academy.
